Biogen Laboratory Developments, LLC (BLD) offers allergen testing in foods.
Allergens have affected the way many of us choose our foods, but with our allergen detection services, your customers can be assured that the foods you make are free of potential allergens. BLD can help maintain your quality control plans by providing allergen testing to rule out the potential for cross-contamination between production runs.
Is your production line allergen free? Every year, roughly 30,000 people are hospitalized and 150 die due to allergic reactions to foods. The majority of food allergies can be found in milk, eggs, fish, peanuts, wheat, and soybeans. Because there is no cure for food allergies, individuals with known allergies must avoid these foods, and depend on food labeling to help them make a safer decision about the foods they consume.
In August 2004, the FDA FOOD ALLERGEN LABELING AND CONSUMER PROTECTION ACT OF 2004 was passed, requiring that food manufacturers add allergen information on their packaging to help protect individuals from allergic reactions due to ingredients used or cross-contamination between production runs. Although FDA has yet to set a threshold, it is up to manufacturers to validate their lines for the presence of various allergens. Compliance was expected in January 2006. BLD can assist suppliers validate their production lines and assure clients that their products are allergen free and properly labeled prior to reaching the consumer.
